Imprisoned Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny took to Twitter to express his views on the war in Ukraine and the situation in Russia.
Navalny has no internet access in prison and is believed to have dictated to his lawyer.
Alexei Navalny: “Let everyone take to the streets and fight for peace”
“We can not be cowards pretending not to see the aggressive war of the mad emperor. We – Russia want to be a nation of peace. Unfortunately, few can call us that now. But at least we may not become a nation of frightened, silenced people. Cowards pretending not to notice the aggressive war waged by the mad tsar against Ukraine.” Navalny wrote.

He added that “he can not, he does not want to and he will not be silent and he sees how pseudo-historical events from a hundred years ago are an excuse for the Russians to kill Ukrainians, and they, defending themselves, kill Russians.”
“In the 20s of the 21st century, we see news of people burning in tanks and bombed houses. We see on television the threats of starting a nuclear war. I am from the USSR. I was born there. The main phrase of the USSR from my childhood was “struggle for peace”. I call on everyone to take to the streets and fight for peace.”, he added.
