Ukrainian authorities say they have destroyed an elite group of Chechen fighters who planned to assassinate President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the British Daily Mail reported today.

The secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council, Alexei Danilov, said in a televised address today that “the unit that came to kill our president has been eliminated.”
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has previously said Chechens were killed in a Russian attack in Ukraine.
Prevented assassination of Zelenskyy planned by Chechen fighters
According to the Daily Mail, since the beginning of the Russian attack on Ukraine on February 24, there were fears that Russian forces could assassinate President Zelenskyy, and the Ukrainian president himself said in an address that he was “the number one target for Kremlin assassins.”
