Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has introduced sanctions against Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to the decree published today on the website of the Ukrainian Presidential Cabinet.

The document states that Assad is subject to an asset freeze and a number of other measures.

Restrictive measures have been imposed on another 300 individuals and 141 legal entities. Most of those on the sanctions list are Russian nationals, but it also includes a large number of Iranian nationals. The restrictions affect Russian research and production, shipbuilding and aerospace companies. Several Iranian companies are also on the list.

The sanctions provide for the freezing of assets, the introduction of restrictions on commercial transactions and the transit of resources, a ban on participation in privatization in Ukraine, the cessation of the performance of economic and financial obligations to the sanctioned, and the confiscation of Ukrainian state awards.
