Although Shakur resided in Oakland, Baltimore, Maryland, and Marin City, California, it was the city on the east side of San Francisco Bay where he reportedly discovered his ‘game’ during the late 80s and early 90s. Therefore, this is where the street will be renamed in honor of the late rapper. What would be the name of the street?
A part of MacArthur Boulevard by Lake Merritt will subsequently now be known as ‘Tupac Shakur Way’.
Former mayor Libby Schaaf said, as per the LA Times:
“Tupac once said: ‘I give all my love to Oakland, if I’ma claim somewhere I’ma claim Oakland’.”
District 3 council member Carroll Fife first proposed the idea to rename a street in Oakland after the rapper Tupac Shakur.
“Tupac Amaru Shakur is a name that is known all across the world for not only his only political influence but his influence on music.”
Reportedly, the Tupac Shakur Foundation has paid for a plaque to adorn the road, in commemoration of the additional name. According to Fife, the plaque is anticipated as being instated on 16 June, the day of Shakur’s birthday.
