Large forest fire in the restrictive zone around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant
“More than 10,000 hectares of forest are burning, which could cause an increase in the level of radiation in the air.”, Denisova said on Facebook, transmitted by Ukrinform.
Denisova also claims that at the moment it is impossible to control the fire and put it out because this zone, which is closed to citizens due to high levels of radiation, is under the control of Russian forces.
She warned that the blaze could engulf nuclear fuel depots and nuclear waste facilities in the Chernobyl area, and that dry and windy weather could lead to large-scale fires.
