A London judge from the High Court rejected the Prince’s bid for a judicial review on Tuesday.

Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, were stripped of taxpayer-funded police protection after stepping down as senior working members of the royal family in 2020.

Harry filed a claim for a judicial review against the ruling in September 2021, but Justice Chamberlain denied his permission to seek such a review of the government’s refusal to allow him to personally pay for his own police and security arrangements.

Harry’s legal team, in court this week,  argued there is precedent for legislative provisions that allowed for the payment of “special police services” and that “payment for policing is not inconsistent with the public interest or public confidence in the Metropolitan Police Service,” the BBC reports.

But Home Office lawyers objected to the idea that “a wealthy person should be allowed to ‘buy’ protective security”.

Additionally, his lawyers can appeal today’s ruling. Harry’s legal battle for U.K. police protection isn’t over.
