On World Ovarian Cancer Day, the 47-year-old actress wrote a post with an important message for all women. In honor of her mother, who died after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer, Jolie urged us all to take better care of ourselves and get regular checkups.

Jolie’s family has a long history of cancer. Her aunt and her grandmother also died of the disease.

She also shared a photo from her childhood with her mother Marcheline Bertrand, whom she closely resembles.

“Tomorrow would have been my mother’s 73rd birthday. She died 15 years ago after a long battle with breast and ovarian cancer. In June, I will be just one month away from the age at which she was diagnosed. I have had preventive surgeries to try to reduce my chances, but I continue to have checkups.

I send my love to all those who have lost a loved one and strength to those who are currently fighting for their lives and the lives of those they love.

And other women, please take the time to take care of yourself and get your mammograms, blood tests, and ultrasounds, especially if you have a family history of cancer.”
